The Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA), a global not-for-profit educational services organization, started in 1974 as a joint venture of representatives from Pacific Northwest school districts, including Portland and Seattle. By focusing on the development of our Rasch Unit (RIT) scale and accompanying items, we became the first organization to offer computer adaptive testing to K-12 education agencies in 1986. Since delivering our first computer adaptive test, we have continued to improve and expand our products and services while maintaining the highest standard of quality. We partner with over 6,600 education organizations worldwide to provide computer-based assessment solutions, reports and other instructional resources, professional development, and research services. These partnerships include school districts, private schools, charter schools, foundations, universities, state departments of education, school reform groups, the Bureau of Indian Education, and international schools in more than eighty countries. Our mission, Partnering to help all kids learn, is more than a mere statement. The mission is an inherent aspect of all organizational endeavors, particularly our effort to make student-centric education a reality for every child, every day. Our mission drives all of our research, informs assessments, shapes professional development offerings, and supports organizational efforts. Furthermore, it keeps us aligned to our founding purpose as we evolve as an organization.
