HCDE hosts fuel management strategies workshop on Nov. 5

[HOUSTON– Oct.21, 2010] Understanding the daily local rack or index price  price moves and changing fuel purchasing habits can save money for governmental entities. Transportation directors, fleet managers, purchasing professionals, superintendents, finance directors and others directly involved in the procurement of fuel are invited to learn more as Harris County Department of Education hosts a complimentary workshop. The workshop will be held on Nov. 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at HCDE’s North Post Oak offices at 6005 Westview Dr. and North Post Oak Rd., in Houston, Texas.

Participants will learn strategies that can be used with governmental entities existing fuel contract to:
• Understand current fuel exposure, including usage, timing and pricing
• Change existing fuel ordering procedures
• Use knowledge of OPIS price moves to better time orders
• Understand factors that affect fuel prices
• Discuss the wholesale markets and how they affect the “rack” prices
• Improve the execution and optimization of fuel contracts
• Discover additional services that will help control inventory levels and keep fuel costs under budget.

Specifically, the workshop is hosted by procurement cooperatives of HCDE: Choice Facility Partners and the HCDE Purchasing Co-op. Lunch will be provided by Tradition Energy, a Choice Facility Partners vendor partner. Continuing education credits will be issued to attendees.
