Governmental representatives invited to energy workshop [March 2008]

HOUSTON (March 14, 2008) Schools, cities, counties, governmental agencies and other nonprofits in  Texas can learn about taking greater control of energy costs by attending a workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, at Harris County Department of Education, 6300 Irvington Blvd., Houston. Participants will gain an understanding of energy reduction, from energy aggregation purchases and setting energy goals to rehabilitation of facilities to implement conservation methods. In addition, new tools to assist in complying with state law (HB 3693) will be highlighted.

Choice Facility Partners (CFP), a cooperative with contract partners brought together by the Harris County Department of Education (HCDE), is providing this workshop at no charge; lunch is included. Seating is limited; to make a reservation, contact Joann Nichols at 713-696-2122 or e-mail jnichols@hcde-texas.org.

House Bill 3693 has mandated that governmental agencies set firm energy conservation targets, closely monitor and report their progress toward those goals.  To assist agencies in managing this process, CFP has undertaken a comprehensive energy program that provides its members with services that include energy auditing and retrofitting, conservation and management, innovative energy choice and behavior modification.

Starting with an in-depth analysis of school district’ buildings and structures, CFP contract partners can identify immediate opportunities and cost-justified solutions to reduce energy use, including lighting control and monitoring systems, HVAC upgrades, repairs and renovations. Contracted through JOC with competitive adjusted and discounted RS Means pricing, contract partners and their subcontractor teams, can quickly install energy conservation and alternative renewable energy solutions to achieve immediate results.

Eligible organizations can take advantage of the energy management program and the dozen other programs within CFP by signing an interlocal agreement.  More than 50 school districts, government agencies and municipalities have signed the interlocal agreement to take advantage of the legally and competitively bid contracts.
