Community electronics recycling event near Houston Galleria

Do a little spring cleaning and take old computers, cellphones, VHS players and other used electronics to a free community electronics recycling event from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 in the parking lot at 6005 Westview Dr., Houston. The event is being sponsored by Choice Partners cooperative, a division of Harris County Department of Education and one of their vendor partners. ARC, an information technology company, is coordinating the event with Fone4Schools, an organization that helps local schools raise money by converting donated electronics into funds for student programs.

Les Hooper, executive director of facilities, is enthusiastic about the program. "This is a great opportunity to accomplish two things: you can get rid of electronics that you don't want any more in a responsible way, while supporting education.”

The ARC/Fone4Schools program will donate a portion of the proceeds from recycling the donated electronics to HCDE to support education efforts.  Fone4Schools follows the strictest environmental and security standards for donated electronics, and has a "no-landfill" policy.

Fone4Schools is run by Strategic Mobile Group, LLC of Austin Texas and is a small, minority-owned business that provides logistics and asset recovery services to hundreds of schools, federal, state and local government agencies as well as corporate organizations nationwide. The company was founded in 2011 to provide schools with advanced fundraising capabilities that help the environment and students.
